Pathways, Stainless Steel, Brick, 10' h x 25' w x 5' d, 2010
Water Street near DeMoulas Market Basket, Fitchburg, MA

Pathways centered around a dynamic public planning effort, and began with Gillian Christy gathering community input for six months beginning in May 2009. The design of Pathways integrated these community ideas, while also maintaining a "sense of place" and pleasing visual aesthetic.

Pathways incorporates imagery that is meaningful to the community, depicting the river and railroad as seen from above which weave through upright pillars representing the past, present, future and community of Fitchburg. While these sculpted items are reminiscent of the industrial era of the mill town, floating pieces of paper honor the memories and thoughts of the old train depot that once stood.

Pathways was created through a collaboration of The Fitchburg Cultural Alliance, The City of Fitchburg and Fitchburg State University. Fitchburg Cultural Alliance, Massachusetts Cultural Council, New England Foundation for the Arts, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and Demoulas - Market Basket funded The Art on Water Street Project.
